As a proud supporter of our community we are delighted to sponsor the 2017 Taranaki International Arts Festival show Anzac Eve.
Having already written a play set in World War I, Dave Armstrong didn’t want to write one about Gallipoli, until he had the idea of a modern-day tale.
Anzac Eve is about four young backpackers from Down Under going to Gallipoli for the Dawn Ceremony, complete with selfies and smuggled vodka.
Are they there for patriotic pride or a possible hook-up?
In this poignant but funny rite-of-passage story, Maia, self-confessed ‘Brizzie bimbo’ and Lizzie the Mozzie (a Maori Australian) meet Kiwis Ben, a graduate of New Zealand history, and Phil, a graduate of the Munich Beer Festival.
Audiences will laugh and cry at Dave Armstrong’s (Niu Sila) modern take on the Gallipoli story which asks what we have learned in the last 100 years.
“It is a rare play which can cram in so much in so short a time, but an even rarer one which can do it with such vibrancy, flair and humour.” Alan Scott – Theatreview
“A triumph of script, performance, direction and design. I loved it and didn't want it to end.” Gail Pittaway - Theatreview
